Read Aloud

Turn any page into audio. An embeddable read-aloud widget that highlights each paragraph as it speaks — with no audio files, no servers, and no per-play costs.

Live demo

This is the real widget. Press play, or hover a paragraph below and start from there.

Listen to this article

Your content already has a voice

Most visitors never finish a long article. Some are commuting, some are cooking, and some simply find listening easier than reading. Read Aloud meets them where they are: one tap turns the page they are looking at into spoken audio.

As it speaks, the current paragraph is highlighted and scrolled into view. Readers can follow along, pause, speed up, or click the progress bar to jump — the same controls they expect from a podcast player.

Everything runs on the speech synthesis engine already built into the browser. There is nothing to record, nothing to host, and nothing sent to a server: the text is spoken on the reader’s own device, in a voice they choose.

Everything a listener needs

Paragraph highlighting

The paragraph being spoken is highlighted and kept in view, so readers can follow along — or skim ahead — without losing their place.

Play from anywhere

Hover any paragraph and a play button appears in the margin. Start listening from exactly the point that interests you.

Speed & voice controls

Five playback speeds and a voice picker built from the voices already installed on the reader’s device, including HD voices where available.

Seekable progress

A progress bar tracks the article as it plays. Click anywhere on it to jump backwards or forwards through the content.

Zero infrastructure

Built on the browser’s own speech synthesis. No audio files to generate or host, no per-play API costs, and the content never leaves the reader’s browser.

Theme-aware by design

Light and dark mode out of the box, with a single accent token to match your brand. It inherits your design system’s colours instead of fighting them.

Two ports, any stack

Read Aloud ships as a React component and as a dependency-free vanilla JavaScript drop-in. The React port slots into any React or Astro site; the vanilla port is two static files — a script and a stylesheet — that work on any page, including fully static documentation sites.

Point it at your article container with a CSS selector and it does the rest: it finds the readable paragraphs, skips navigation and chrome, and adds the player and margin controls.
