Amazon FSx (File System for) for Windows: When you need a centralized storage for Windows -based applications, such as SharePoint, Microsoft SQL Server, Workspaces, IIS Web Server, and other native Windows applications. Uses SMB (Server Message Block) network protocol which support DFS (Distributed File Systems).
Amazon FSx (File System for) for Lustre: When you need a high-performance distributed storage. Used for high perfomance computing (HPC), financial modeling, etc. FSx for Lustre can store data directly on S3.
